Making a Gift

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does my gift to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center go?

Gifts to UNC Lineberger help our faculty and staff treat cancer patients, conduct cutting-edge cancer research, and train future physicians and scientists. UNC Lineberger is a nationally recognized leader in cancer research, treatment, prevention and outreach, and is also the only public cancer center serving the needs of North Carolinians. Your contributions remain in the state to benefit your friends and neighbors.

Will I receive a thank you note? What other recognition will I receive?

Yes. All donors will receive a prompt acknowledgement. Gifts of $100 or more will also be listed annually in the fall issue of CancerLines, and donors of $1,000 or more annually will be enrolled in the Lineberger Club.

All donors giving $1,000 or more are considered members of the Lineberger Club as well as the Co-Founders of the Medical Foundation of North Carolina. Gifts over $2,000 additionally qualify you for membership in the University’s Chancellor’s Club.

What is the Lineberger Club? What are the benefits?

Members of the Lineberger Club are part of an extraordinary network of volunteers committed to supporting cancer research, treatment and prevention programs at UNC Lineberger by contributing $1,000 or more each year. Benefits of membership include invitations to exclusive educational events including an annual Lineberger Club event prior to a UNC Men’s Basketball Game, networking with a remarkable group of individuals, special news updates, and opportunities for advocacy on behalf of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Members are recognized in Cancer Center publications. Learn more about The Lineberger Club and how to join.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. UNC Lineberger is part of The Medical Foundation of North Carolina, Inc., which raises funds to benefit the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and UNC Health Care. All gifts are tax-deductible subject to the limits allowed by the Internal Revenue Service. If you make a gift associated with an event, auction, product or service, UNC Lineberger’s External Affairs office will provide you with the necessary documentation for tax purposes.
