Objectives:
Microscopy is an essential tool in studying the molecular, sub-cellular, and cellular mechanisms involved in cancer. The Light Microscopy Core provides Cancer Center members with access to state-of-the-art light microscopy and expert assistance in its utilization.

Services:
In 2003 the Core added two new confocal laser scanning microscopes, live cell imaging facilities, and high resolution slide scanning equipment for imaging tissue microarrays. The Core has submitted an NIH Shared Instrumentation Grant to add a PALM laser capture microdissection system to its already existing Arcturus system. In total the Core provides nine different imaging systems to Cancer Center members. The LM Core also provides expert consultation in light microscopy methods, especially immuno methods, and in image interpretation and measurement.

Policies:
The facility is open from 8 AM to 5 PM weekdays with access on weekends by permission of the director. It is our goal to provide access to the facility 24/7.

Charges:
Cancer Center Members are not charged for light microscopy services or for consultation with the Core staff.

Staff:
Dr. C. Robert Bagnell, associate professor, is the faculty director. Victoria Madden is the laboratory specialist. Dr. Elena Davis is the laboratory technologist.

The Light Microscopy Facility is located in B05 Brinkhous-Bullitt and is open Monday-Friday from 8:0
