Services:
Biosafety Containment services provides three containment rooms, each with a different function (BSL2, BSL3, PCR-clean room); training of new workers; access and oversight of the containment rooms-supervision of users, equipment and facility maintenance, monitoring supplies, etc. The staff interacts directly with faculty and staff, without charge, to provide access, training, and supervision of use of the containment facility. The Biosafety Containment facility serves a number of different investigators and projects, including: pathogenesis studies of interactions between HIV and human herpesviruses, mechanisms of HIV pathogenesis, analysis of viral populations in vivo, and gene expression patterns to predict treatment response in patients.






Policies:
The Biosafety Facility component is space limited so it is only available to the researchers that are located in the Lineberger Cancer center.






Staff:
The Faculty Director is Dr. Ron Swanstrom, professor of biochemistry. Janera Harris is the Facility Supervisor.







Location:
The Biosafety Facility is located in Room 140 of the Lineberger Cancer Research Building. The Facilities Supervisor is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
