Lineberger's Biostatistics Core Facility is very pleased to announce the addition of a new faculty statistician to our group, Dr Pei-Fen Kuan, PhD.

Born in Malaysia, Dr Kuan did her undergraduate work at the National University of Singapore, where she earned her BSc (with honors) in 2004. In 2006, she received her MS, and in 2009 her PhD, both in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Her main area of expertise (and research interest) is in developing statistical methodologies for high throughput genomics data, particularly from tiling arrays and next generation sequencing (e.g. ChIP-chip and ChIP-Seq data).

We are very pleased to have her with us! Please join us in welcoming her to our Cancer Center.

About The Walk-in Clinic

Talk with a Lineberger Biostatistics Core Statistician at one of our regularly scheduled walk-in clinics.

Many have reported being quite pleased with this service!

The BIOS walk-in clinic hours will not be replacements for more involved consultations (like those required to assist in the preparation of protocols or grant submissions) but they may help you figure what to do next. While data analysis services will not be provided during these clinics, answers to vexing statistical questions may be!

Participating Cancer Center statisticians will be available to consult informally with those who are associated with the Cancer Center and doing Cancer Center research.

BIOS walk-in clinic hours will be scheduled for Mondays through Fridays, from 12 noon to 1 pm, in the first floor atrium of Lineberger.

Please consult the Lineberger Biostatistics and Data Management Core web page to confirm clinic hours (for possible cancellations that particular week).

We are a 'no charge' facility.

Staff:

Dr. Joseph G. Ibrahim is the Facility's Faculty Director. Important faculty contributors include Drs. Michael Bowling, Haitao Chu, Anastasia Ivanova, and Bahjat Qaqish. Allison M. Deal and Michael Chiu are full time Cancer Center Biostatisticians. Chelu K Mfalila works primarily with CFAR Core. Dominic T. Moore is a Senior Biostatistician and Data Management Coordinator.

We have a number of graduate research assistants (GRAs) working with Cancer Center Statisticians in 2009. Most of them are assigned to assist with a specific project with their senior faculty advisor. Their efforts are often key components to the successful completion of certain projects. Our current GRAs are: Zakaria Khondker, Ryan May, Shangbang Rao, and Bingqing (Teresa) Zhou.

Data Management is a significant component of this Facility. Current members of this component are Paul E. Jones, Robert V. Nachtsheim, and Nicholas P. Mullen.
