Clinical Interests
Late effects of chemotherapy
Experimental therapeutics of solid tumors
Epidemiology of solid tumors
Research Interests
Dr. Blatt's interests fall into three areas of clinical research. The first is in Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Therapy. Past studies have focused on gonadal function, cardiotoxicity and the development of second malignancies. She is a consultant to the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study, a multicenter NIH-funded study which is examining late effects in more than 20,000 survivors of childhood cancer. She also is a past member of the Strategy Group of the Surveillance and End Results Committee of the Children's Oncology Group, which generates late effects study components of therapeutic trials. Current research is focused on neurocognitive deficits in survivors of ALL and inthe development of transition clinics for adolescent-young adult survivors.
Her second clinical research interest is more generically in the epidemiology of pediatric solid tumors. She has collaborated with a number of investigators at the University of North Carolina, including Dr. Andrew Olshan of the Department of Epidemiology, in several studies of neuroblastoma epidemiology, and is studying possible interactions between childhood cancer and autism.
A third interest is in experimental therapeutics of childhood cancer and related diseases. Current studies involve the effects of rapamycin on neuroblastoma.
Recent Accomplishments and Honors
